Be live in subway sytem under new york, maybe in utopian version of world this wasn't being used due to other forms of transportation or whatever

Whatever other organisation they're currently fighting against should be actively tunnelling into the rat folk city. the rats should not notice this, but maybe passive hearing checks for tunneling noises. since the routes are also actively unneling things to expand their city, maybe these noises can be heard in many different places and using this way to figure out the plot would involve hearing noises in an are that you shouldn't. this may be too esoteric of away to figure it out, but it is only one of many.

maybe that is just the usual kind of shone from mainstream society and pushed underground, not much else to do down there and develop a more solid identity separated from humans, utopian pre vor society would likely be very focused on progress and the future and identity of rats developed as a rejction of that. hedonism as a read action to utopia wit only make sense if asceticsm was a thing, but it also kind of develops naturally from focusing hard on the here and now

I don't like the mostly to stock paper idea s much now. Rats should probably be hedonistic and very energtic slash fund for gameplay purposes, but have it as more of a means to an end. only problem then is fitting that in with the poison maker prophets

would JD being focus of a lot of attention (necessarily, elephant needs to be worked around in a lot of things) create inter-party tension or jealousy AND IS THIS A GOOD THING???

if they fight a rival gang and they have an elephant fucking shit up, rival gang easily goes “ok lets get an elephant to counter-fuck their shit up”

stats maybe obvious (dodge, melee, some like dirty trick type things)

will act intelligently

if JD goes all out it might just be horrid? skaven like rats way smaller than elephant

but we can retcon biology a bit and have them poison him or some shit (it's less effective and doesnt outright kill without a shitload, but means a sort of run and kite works pretty well)
